Description
These Black Poison Swirl Candy Apples are spooky, glossy, and delicious—perfect for Halloween! Juicy apples are dipped in jet-black candy coating with magical swirls of silver or purple, delivering dramatic flair and a sweet crunch in every bite.
Ingredients
For the Apples
-
6 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
-
Wooden sticks or decorative skewers
For the Candy Coating
-
2 cups granulated sugar
-
¾ cup water
-
½ cup light corn syrup
-
1 tsp black gel food coloring
-
¼ tsp purple or silver gel food coloring
-
½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Apples
Wash apples thoroughly and dip them in hot water for a few seconds to remove any wax. Dry completely and insert wooden sticks firmly into the tops. -
Make the Candy Coating
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves. Attach a candy thermometer and bring the mixture to a boil, without stirring, until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage). -
Color the Candy
Remove from heat and quickly stir in black gel food coloring. Lightly swirl in purple or silver coloring for a marble effect—do not overmix. -
Dip the Apples
Tilt the saucepan slightly and dip each apple, rotating it to coat fully. Let excess drip off, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool. -
Set and Serve
Allow the apples to cool and harden at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use a candy thermometer to avoid under- or overcooking the sugar. Swirl the accent color lightly at the end to keep the design sharp. Avoid refrigeration to prevent sticky coating.
