Instructions

Prepare the Blueberries
Rinse fresh blueberries and remove stems or debris. If using frozen, no need to thaw. -
Simmer the Berries
In a large saucepan, combine blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until berries have broken down. -
Blend Smooth
Use an immersion blender to purée the mixture directly in the pot, or transfer to a blender in batches. For an ultra-smooth result, strain through a fine mesh sieve. -
Reduce to Butter
Return purée to the pot and simmer uncovered over low heat for 60–90 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened and spreadable. -
Add Flavorings
In the last 10 minutes of cooking, stir in cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla if using. -
Jar and Store
Spoon the finished blueberry butter into sterilized jars. Refrigerate for up to 3 weeks, freeze for 6 months, or can using the water-bath method.
Notes
You can substitute other berries like blackberries or raspberries. For a deeper flavor, try adding a splash of balsamic vinegar or a pinch of ground cloves. Always stir regularly while reducing to prevent sticking or burning at the bottom.
