Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp lemon zest
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 pinch black pepper
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 cup frozen mango chunks
- 1/2 cup fresh baby spinach
- 1/2 cup frozen carrot slices
Instructions:
- Zest the lemon using a microplane and peel the oranges, removing any seeds. Note: Seeds can add a bitter taste to the final blend.
- Grate the fresh ginger finely until it forms a paste. Note: This prevents ginger chunks in the smoothie.
- Pour the 2 cups of orange juice and 1 tbsp of lemon juice into the blender first. Note: Liquid at the bottom creates the vortex.
- Add the 1/2 tsp ground turmeric and a pinch of black pepper. Note: This ensures the spices are fully dissolved in the liquid.
- Place the 1/2 cup of fresh baby spinach on top of the liquid. Note: This prevents the leaves from sticking to the lid.
- Add the 1 cup of frozen mango and 1/2 cup of frozen carrot slices. Note: The weight of the frozen fruit pushes everything down into the blades.
- Drizzle in the 1 tbsp of honey. Note: Placing it on top prevents it from sticking to the bottom of the jar.
- Start the blender on the lowest speed and quickly increase to high.
- Blend for 45-60 seconds until the spinach is completely pulverized and the mixture is a vibrant, uniform orange.
- If the consistency is too thick, add a splash of water or coconut water and pulse for 5 seconds.
