Ingredients:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) white or yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 package (3 oz) flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 tub (8 oz) whipped topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract in a bowl.
  3. Pour the batter into your 9x13 inch pan and bake 30 mins until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Remove the pan and let it sit for exactly 10 minutes. Note: This is the critical window for absorption.
  5. Use your skewer or fork to poke holes every 1/2 inch across the cake, going halfway down.
  6. Whisk boiling water into the flavored gelatin until the powder is totally gone.
  7. Stir in the cold water to bring the temperature down slightly.
  8. Pour the liquid gelatin slowly over the cake, making sure it fills every hole.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours until the top feels firm to the touch.
  10. Spread the thawed whipped topping in a thick, velvety layer across the top.
