Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

Instructions:

  1. Whisk the 1 tbsp cornstarch into the 1/2 cup cold water in a small bowl. Note: This prevents lumps later.
  2. Combine the 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup ketchup, and 1 tsp soy sauce in your saucepan.
  3. Add the 1/2 tsp garlic powder and 1/4 tsp ground ginger to the pot.
  4. Pour the cornstarch slurry into the saucepan while the liquid is still cold.
  5. Place the pot over medium heat and begin whisking constantly.
  6. Heat the mixture until it begins to simmer and bubble.
  7. Cook for 1 minute until the sauce turns translucent and thickens.
  8. Remove from heat immediately to prevent over thickening.
  9. Cool slightly before serving to let the flavors meld.
