Ingredients:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz / 432g) white or yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (237ml) water
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup (115g) vegetable oil
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85g) flavored Jell-O
  • 1 cup (237ml) boiling water
  • ¼ cup (60ml) cold water
  • 1 tub (8 oz / 225g) thawed whipped topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven according to cake mix package. Combine cake mix, water, eggs, and oil in a bowl; beat with a mixer on medium speed until smooth. Pour into a greased 13x9 inch pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes.
  2. While the cake is still slightly warm, use a wooden chopstick to poke holes across the entire surface, spacing them about 1 inch apart and pushing nearly to the bottom of the pan.
  3. Dissolve the gelatin powder in 1 cup of boiling water, stirring until completely dissolved. Stir in 1/4 cup of cold water. Slowly pour the liquid over the cake, covering all holes.
  4. Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours, or until the gelatin is firm.
  5. Spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake.
