Prep Your Ingredients
Chop all vegetables and slice sausage. Pat shrimp dry to avoid excess moisture when cooking. -
Cook the Sausage
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet. Sauté sliced sausage until browned and crispy. Remove and set aside. -
Sear the Shrimp
Add another tablespoon of oil. Cook shrimp 2–3 minutes per side until just pink. Remove and set aside. -
Sauté Veggies
In the same skillet, add onion, garlic, and bell peppers. Cook until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes. -
Add Cabbage and Spices
Stir in the chopped cabbage. Add salt, pepper, paprika, cayenne, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well. -
Steam and Soften
Pour in chicken broth or water. Cover and let steam for 5–6 minutes until cabbage is tender but not mushy. -
Bring It Together
Return sausage and shrimp to the skillet. Add hot sauce if using. Stir everything together and cook 2–3 more minutes. -
Serve Hot
Serve straight from the skillet or over rice, potatoes, or grits.
Notes
Use andouille sausage for more kick or turkey sausage for a leaner option. Adjust the cayenne to control the heat level. This dish also works great with pre-shredded coleslaw mix for faster prep.
