Strawberry Puree Recipe

  • Author: Hannah
  • Total Time: 15-20 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 1 cup of strawberry puree 1x
  • Diet: Gluten Free

Description

Strawberry puree is a versatile and vibrant sauce made from fresh or frozen strawberries, offering a burst of natural sweetness and a rich, fruity flavor. It’s an excellent addition to various dishes, enhancing desserts like cheesecakes, ice creams, and cakes, or adding a delightful twist to beverages such as smoothies and cocktails. This simple recipe requires minimal ingredients and time, making it a handy staple in any kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces (450 grams) fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust based on strawberry sweetness)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • Prepare the Strawberries
If using fresh strawberries, wash, hull, and dice them. For frozen strawberries, allow them to thaw before use.

  • Combine Ingredients
In a blender or food processor, add the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Blend until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

  • Adjust Consistency (Optional)
If a thicker consistency is desired, pour the puree into a saucepan and cook over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture begins to thicken and reduce, approximately 5-10 minutes.

  • Strain the Puree (Optional)
For an extra smooth texture, pass the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove seeds and pulp.

  • Cool and Store
Allow the strawberry puree to cool completely. Transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days, or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

Sweetness Adjustment: Taste your strawberries before adding sugar. If they’re particularly sweet, you may reduce the sugar quantity. Conversely, for tart strawberries, add a bit more sugar to achieve the desired sweetness.

Lemon Juice: Incorporating lemon juice not only balances the sweetness but also helps preserve the vibrant color of the puree.

Storage Tip: For extended storage, freeze the puree in ice cube trays. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container, allowing you to thaw small portions as needed.
